Ten Cakes Husbands Like Best, by Lever Brothers Company. Chocolate Rapture Cake and Spicy Prune Whip Cake. Chocolate Rapture Cake. Oven temperature 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Moderate.
Baking time 25 to 30 minutes. Yield two round 9 inch layers. Sift 1 and 3 quarter cups sifted cake flour. 1 and 1 half cups sugar. 3 quarter teaspoon salt.
1 half teaspoon double acting baking powder. 3 quarter teaspoon soda into mixing bowl. Add 1 half cup homogenized spry. 3 ounces melted chocolate. 1 cup thick sour milk or buttermilk.
1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat 200 strokes or 2 minutes by hand or on mixer at low speed. Scrape bowl and spoon or beater. Add 2 unbeaten eggs. Beat 200 strokes, same as above.
Stir in 1 cup cut fine coconut. Pour into two round 9 inch spray coat layer pans. 1 and 1 quarter inches deep. Bake until cake tests done. Cool and remove from pans.
Spread tawny satin frosting between layers and on top and sides. Dribble melted and cooled mixture of 1 half ounce chocolate and 1 half teaspoon spry around rim of cake, letting a few ribbons trickle down the sides. Spicy prune whip cake.
Oven temperature 360 degrees Fahrenheit, moderate. Baking time 30 to 35 minutes. Yield two 8 inch round layers. Sift 2 cups sifted cake flour. 1 1 third cups sugar.
2 teaspoons double acting baking powder. 1 quarter teaspoon soda. 1 half teaspoon cinnamon. 1 half teaspoon nutmeg. 1 half teaspoon allspice.
1 teaspoon salt into mixing bowl. Add 1 half cup homogenized spry. 1 half cup unsweetened prune juice. 1 quarter cup milk. 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Beat 200 strokes or 2 minutes by hand or on mixer at low speed. Scrape bowl and spoon or beater. Add 1 quarter cup milk to unbeaten eggs. Beat 200 strokes, same as above. Pour into two spry coated 8 inch round layer pans,
1 and 1 half inches deep. Bake until cake tests done. Cool and remove from pans. Spread prune whip frosting between layers and on sides and top.
